what follows is an introduction to ‘Paper Shapes’, and a description of the working process ~
the images on the first pages of ‘portfolio’ are photographs of a small book titled ‘who I am?’. the book is written in braille for people without sight. on each page, there is a shape removed from the paper and the name of the shape. ‘who am I?’ is designed to stimulate thinking about how it feels to be a triangle, a square, a rectangle, a droplet, a hemisphere, an oblong, a circle. this book was conceptualized through contemplation of how I personally associate with circles and the meaning of different shapes. holding this book open in my hands, I see that light illuminates the varying states of transparency of the paper and allows the shapes to interact. photographs, named ‘Paper Shapes’, become a separate work with their own meaning. an element of the working process is something becoming something else, becoming something else. ‘Paper Shapes’ captures hues of brown. do shapes have more meaning when they are together or separate?
