on perceptible motion

on perceptible motion is a study of natural phenomena that can be perceived by our vision. the project is composed of three individual projects ~

1. wet to dry

clay cylinders sit together casting shadows. their surfaces are greeny-grey and speckled with details.
as the clay dries it shrinks as the water leaves its body. the cracking occurs unnoticeably and soundlessly. the cylinders become nearly cylinders. revealed edges are rough and grainy. the gaps are doors to the space in the cylinder.

one day clay was being formed in the studio. wrapped around glass bottles to be shaped into cylinders. it was noticed that if the glass bottle was left in place, the clay would crack open as it dried. this same natural phenomenon causes humongous rocks to be broken apart.

2. dry to wet

like rain falling onto sand dunes, water is dripped onto hills of flour.
in the beginning, the hills sit still. their dusty pastel-yellow surfaces nearly smooth.

the water drips, cascades, runs, slides, effects and rains. the hills fracture and separate. dissolving and flowing away with the water unable to hold themselves together.

this same natural phenomenon of water on hills causes rocks to become no longer.

3. aIr currents (wInd)

a kinetic sculpture structured with basic shapes in a poetic composition rotating endlessly.
movement is caused by the motion of air currents in the surrounding atmosphere. these air currents reflect on the atmosphere of earth. how natural phenomena, such as hot air rising and cold air sinking, give rise to dynamic airflow systems around the globe. as well as breath. all of the matter on earth is continuously circulated.
the air we breathe is ancient.
